Highlights from Berlin Fashion Week SS22
After a long wait, Berlin Fashion Week could once again have an audience and no one wanted to miss it. The streets of the German capital breathed fashion.
Guests rushed to attend the events and fashion shows, which
ranged from a classic design to hybrid concepts and international streetwear
clothing. Up-and-coming designer Florentina Leitner met up with American
streetwear manufacturer Heron Preston and the internationally known brand
Ottolinger. From FashionUnited we offer you a summary of the highlights of this
edition.
Fassbender goes to Ibiza
Like many people right now, Christina Fassbender, her
brother Sebastian Steinhoff, and creative director Matthias Louwen seem to be
yearning for a sun, beach, and sand vacation. The trio behind the Hamburg-based
brand Fassbender showcased a collection inspired by the Spanish island of
Ibiza.
In it, the blue tones of the Mediterranean meet the sandy
and stony landscape of the Balearic island. The color palette is
complemented by floral prints that make the collection blossom.
The design of the SS22 collection is as versatile as the
Ibizan landscape. Lightweight, flowy fabrics are combined with pieces of
workwear made from more solid fabrics. Elements such as sailor collars provide
the maritime touch.
At the “Platte. Berlin” pop-up event, the city of Berlin was
shown from a completely different perspective. The parade took place in the
backyard of the nightclub between gray concrete walls. The capital's new
fashion hub features brands such as Dstm lingerie, the Berlin streetwear brand
Damur and the sustainable accessories Perlensau. 30 designers performed in a
combination of catwalk and voguing, a dance style that thrives on the energy
of its audience. The guests cheered, clapped, and danced with great enthusiasm.
Afterward, guests continued to celebrate with enthusiasm
the post-show event, the official opening of the new Berlin nightclub
Platte.Berlin.
Richert Beil shows "Tagesschau" (newscast) at
the Reference Festival
The designer duo Richert Beil presented their SS22
collection in a very special place. In the dome of the futuristic 47-meter high
Bierpinsel building, creative director Jale Richert and designer Michele Beil
presented the "show of the day." Tight suits and ties were combined
with streetwear and outdoor clothing. In terms of color, the collection is
sober, with earth tones, black and light blue. She's also pretty quiet when it
comes to patterns, except for the camos.
The Berlin brand showed its collection during the festival
of the public relations agency Reference Studios. In addition to the parade,
parties were held, artistic installations and performances could be seen in
Bierpinsel. Also present were the sporty and elegant streetwear brand
Ottolinger and the ready-to-wear line of the Berlin magazine 032c, as well as
the outdoor clothing brand Carhartt. In front of the premises, the Parisian
brand Phipps positioned itself with a pop-up van. Its founder, Spencer Phipps,
used it to sell restored vintage pieces of his gold brand.

Heron Preston shows his collaboration with Mercedes at a
power plant
Berlin's Mercedes Benz Fashion Week featured several
catwalks, the Berliner Salon group show, and also an art installation by
American streetwear designer Heron Preston at the Kraftwerk power station.
Preston collaborated with the German automobile company on
the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the airbag. This gave rise to a
collection of outdoor clothing inspired by this protection mechanism.
Following the announcement of the collaboration at the end
of August, fashion week guests were able to see the accompanying art
installation live.
